🛡️ High Integrity Pressure Protection System (HIPPS)
A High Integrity Pressure Protection System (HIPPS) is a specialized and highly reliable type of Safety Instrumented System (SIS) designed as a last line of defense to prevent the catastrophic over-pressurization of downstream pipelines, vessels, or equipment in industrial plants (such as chemical, petrochemical, and oil & gas facilities).
Instead of the traditional method of using pressure relief valves (PRVs) that open to vent or flare excess fluid, a HIPPS works by isolating the source of the high pressure before the safe operating limits of the protected equipment are exceeded. This makes it an essential safety barrier between a high-pressure section and a low-pressure section of an installation.
